Where there's coffee there's hope. And dragons.

I'm taking a short break from writing my novel, simply because I sort of hate it today. I mean, you write a book, you try to publish it, the publisher gets all worked up about it and you think 'yay, soon I'll be a real boy, sorry author.' Then the consulent writes you a long letter explaining why your book is terrible, he makes some good points and some aweful ones (there shouldn't be a gay couple in it, this book is for teenagers....srsly??)

So you sit down, do research, stubbornly hold on to the gay couple and try to write a second draft. This is where I am now, and I tell you it's taking me forever. Every time I finish a chapter, a voice in my head repeatedly  tells me it's crap and that I should have chosen a different career path. Like dentistry. The only upside is that the voice kind of sounds like Alan Rickman.

So instead I'm writing this short story about a shop keeper who has to hide and raise a dragon in his little antique shop. He burns Harlequin novels in his backyard because they're not antique enough for him and doesn't really believe in dragons, not even after he owns one.

It's a strange story, but apparently I'll do anything to get away from that dreaded second draft.
